Landon called me at home to tell me he'd caught a Keel-billed toucan. I loaded the kids into the jogging stroller and ran to his field site so we could watch his team process the bird. The kids think it's our pet now.

Logan lost a fingernail after getting his finger caught in the bathroom door. (He likes the bathroom, where he can fish in the toilet and eat the used toilet paper in the trash.) The nail first turned milky white, then hung at a strange angle, then started hinging back and forth like the the lid of a piano bench. Finally, Hennia swept it up on Friday and put it on the kitchen counter. We were fascinated. Unfortunately, I can't find it now and am hoping it doesn't turn up in a meal.
Although he lost a nail, he's made up for it by gaining a tooth. It's only a quarter erupted, but razor-sharp. He's already tested it out on a few of us here at home.
